The power that lies within us is unfathomable, the mind is the engine room that drives us as individuals, and like every other engine it must be continuously fueled and adequately maintained. Life and death, they say are in the power of the tongue – what we say or profess. I say life and death are in the power and realm of the mind, what you create or believe. It doesn’t really matter how many times you profess it, if you don’t believe it or act to create it out of the beautiful yet inexhaustible resources within us, failure is still imminent.
This is not a post to tell you how to succeed at life, it is just a friendly reminder that your mind needs to be the most protected and nurtured part of your whole being. As you need to eat right, to exercise regularly, to see the doctor for checkup periodically, the same if not more should done for the mind. The only difference is that with the mind, we tend to focus on the abstract and unquantifiable actions that could end up defining the state of our mental health. Shut out negativity, enlighten yourself, learn a new thing every day if possible, travel the world, meet new people, the list is endless I must say. All these are ways to improve the quality of our lives but I have profound sympathy for people who forget to do the simplest yet most important of these self-improvement actions, Self-affirmation.
Self-affirmation as a word may sounds like one should go around muttering to his or herself, but I must tell you it is a very profound concept. I want us to realize that the mind is a ‘universe’ of its own and we are barely stewards, custodians if you will. Everything that happens in this ‘universe’ depends solely on us. It might be relative compared to the outer world, the physical world and how we interact with it, but in this domain, you remain like a divine like creature – a godhead.
We are simply meant to create, to set into motion, to bring life to any and everything we desire. We are always worried about the external effect of the world on us, but rather we should focus more on the external effects of our minds on the world. Spend time building not destroying things or people in your mind and you will attain a level of success, peace and contentment that is unparalleled and surpasses the rewards of depending on material or immaterial things. The power is within us, we just must focus, declutter, search, and create just like God did, after all we are made in His image and likeness.
We need to be frugal in our approach to protect, build and depend solely on ourselves to achieve anything regardless of circumstances, favorable or otherwise. Look within and deep into the seemingly inaccessible recesses of our mind. What you need lies waiting for you there, like one of my favorite authors would say “you have got the punch, too”.
